The PRISM Quartet, composer/guitarist Nick Didkovsky, and sonic alchemist Thomas Dimuzio perform Ice Cream Time, an evening-length work by Harvestworks Sponsored Artist Didkovsky that uses electric guitar, an onslaught of saxophones, and real-time computer processing to explore the boundaries between human- and software-generated music. [May 23] Ligia Teixeira & Ivan Franco: Strings Of Thought #2

A woman sits on a chair and from her head several strings emerge to form a network structure like dendritic trees of neurons. These cells generate electric signals based on potential voltage and the reaction to outside stimuli. Strings of Thought #2 is an interactive installation that invites the audience to explore and play with a musical meta-instrument and collaboratively create an intricate soundscape. Through experimentation with piezo microphones, a multitude of MaxMSP patches, and music production software, the group has built hybridized instruments that successfully process acoustic sounds into a new electronic dialogue. [Jun 8] Get closer to your audience: Multichannel and Spatialization Concepts in Max/MSP

For decades the attempt to do spatialization has been focused on a “virtual sound source” being moved around the space. The result we recognize as an audience is almost only “circles” as movements, even if the virtual sound source is doing much more complex moves – unless you are in the sweet spot of a given speaker setup. In this workshop we will learn various spatialization concepts using the Max/MSP programming environment, then learning different approaches to look beyond “sweet spot” concepts.
