[Jun 25 – July 13] Online Class: Introduction to Max/MSP and Jitter

Participants in this 2+ week ONLINE workshop will be introduced to the mystic and inspiring world of our favorite art coding software: Max/MSP/Jitter. Lessons will be administered through a series of pre-recorded video tutorials which students will be able to download and keep for future reference. The Instructor will also be available during the weeks to answer questions and help guiding personal projects. Continue reading

[Jun 14/15] Pure DatrocessorduinoMOS

THIS CLASS IS LIMITED TO 12 PEOPLE. As part of the Dark Circuits Festival, this is a crash course in building connections between Pure Data or Processing and DIY CMOS circuits using Arduino. This is a really fun way of learning how to integrate software based interfaces, custom code, and physical hardware through music! Don’t worry if you’re not a seasoned expert in any of these areas. Examples will be provided and explained along with brief introductions to the systems/environments and how to explore them further on your own. Continue reading

[Mar 26 – Apr 18] Make Art and Music with Leap Motion ONLINE Class

Make Art and Music with Leap Motion is a 3-week ONLINE course on how to use the Leap Motion as a controller for artistic and musical expression using Processing. The Leap Motion is a small device capable of ultra-sensitive tracking of hands and fingers, enabling the creation of precise gestural controllers to manipulate visual and musical instruments in real-time. Applications covered will include digital painting, triggering musical instruments, real-time communication with other creative software, and getting Leap data into web applications. [Mar 15/16] Interactive Music with Web Audio / HTML5 Javascript API

With expanding adoption in both desktop and mobile browsers, Web Audio is the new frontier for rich and powerful audio applications. Web Audio is an HTML5 Javascript API for audio input, playback and synthesis for creating real-time musical applications all in the browser! Explore the wealth of possibilities this technology enables in a two day workshop where students will build their own browser-based instruments, visualizers and effects. Continue reading

[Jan 25 – Feb 9] Online Class: Drawing the Third Dimension

In this two-week online workshop we will explore MaxMSP Jitter’s OpenGL framework as a tool for 3D video production. We will also use Blender (a free and open source 3D modeling software) to sculpt our own object models and work with them further in Jitter. Participants will leave equipped with an understanding of video manipulation using OpenGL and a trove of tools and re-usable code to create their own Navigable 3D Environments or Custom Video Software. Continue reading

[Jan 25/26] Wearables – Soft control for your visual & sonic arts

This workshop will serve as an introduction to soft circuits, to learn how to translate your circuits into wearable projects and create your own soft controllers for visuals or audio. Soft circuits, or electronic textiles, are electrical circuits created using flexible conductive materials such as conductive threads and fabrics altogether with discrete electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors or transistors. We will provide basic knowledge in those materials, how to work with them and embed them into a wearable piece and possible applications to let the users explore new ways of electronics and design, using Processing as a software.
