Overview:
The Harvestworks Artist In Residence Program offers commissions of up to $4000 to make a new work in our state of the art digital media facility. Each artist receives a $1,000 fee with the balance of the award posted in a' "facilities account" which is used to manage and produce the work. The artist works with a team comprised of a project manager, engineer and programmer (if required).
New works may include the creation of a new video work with a surround sound audio mix, audio recording and mastering of a surround sound piece, the creation of a new web art work and the development of a live interactive music/video/installation system using Max/MSP/Jitter. Up to 10 residencies will be selected (depending on project size and funding) along with two alternates in the event any resident artist cannot participate. Priority will be given to the creative use of the Harvestworks' production facility and the innovative use of sound and/or picture. Emerging artists and artists of color are encouraged to apply.
Stipend:
Upon completion and presentation of the project the resident artists receive a $1000 stipend.

Eligibility:
The Artist in Residency (AIR) program is designed to assist individual working artists and their collaborators. Groups and ensembles are not eligible. Only new work proposals are accepted. Proposals that document an existing work are not eligible. Students who are currently enrolled in a university are not eligible. AIR recipients from the past 2 years are not eligible to apply this year. Applicants must reside in the U.S.
Project Presentation Work Produced in the program is premiered in the Harvestworks' 5.1 Presentation Lab. Residents are included in Creative Contact, an Internet compilation of digital art work on the Harvestworks website. The artists may be asked to contribute a work to a publication or exhibition featuring Harvestworks' programs.
Review Criteria:
Professional experience of the artist. Creative use of technology and feasibility of completing the proposed project using Harvestworks' programs.

Application Form:
Send 5 copies of the completed application form and 5 copies of an up to two-page resume relevant to your experience in this field. Do not send reviews, reference letters, program notes or record albums. Please provide 5 one-page (letter format) copies of a detailed description of your proposed project. Indicate what your goals are for the residency and how it will affect your future work. Please specify equipment needs if you can. Please make sure all paperwork is clearly labeled with your name and phone number.
Work Sample:
Please cue an audio or video segment up to the point that you want the panel to review. The work sample can be much longer, and you can send multiple work samples, but please understand that the panel will not review more than 10 minutes. All work sample materials must be clearly labeled with the artist's name. If you collaborate with another artist, please note that work samples of all collaborators are required. Formats include audio CD, VHS, Mini-DV, Audio or Video DVDs with stereo or 5.1 Surround Sound, slides in a clear plastic slide sheet, Macintosh-based disk or CD-ROM, and a URL. Do not send master tapes.
And please send us only ONE copy of a work sample, our panel is not sitting around a table with 5 CD-players or TVs... ;-))))
Return Materials:
Application materials can be picked up at Harvestworks after the decision, or we'll send them back to you if you provide us with an adequate container, SASE and sufficient postage. Harvestworks will make every reasonable effort to safeguard work but cannot be responsible for loss or damage. All remaining materials will be discarded on March 1, 2008.
Application Deadline:
All applications must be postmarked on THursday, November 1, 2007, or delivered in person to Harvestworks, 596 Broadway, Suite 602, NYC by 6pm that day. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications will be reviewed by Harvestworks and a panel of peers currently working in the field.
Notification:
Grant decisions by the panel will be final. Grant decisions will be available by January 1, 2008. New Works residencies will run from January through December 31, 2008. Projects must be completed during the year of the grant; award time which is unused after the year is over will be forfeited. Project revisions of selected residencies must be approved before production begins.
