[July 12-23] DigiCamp for Kids and Teens


Harvestworks offers a two-week summer DigiCamp for students age 8 - 16 in July 2010. The DigiCamp participants will learn to express their artistic voices with various digital media, e.g. such as a Podcast. The program offers video production, live video performance, music and soundtrack design, which includes script writing, recording techniques, and sound editing using the ProTools and Garageband software platforms. We will also learn how to build an easy website for posting the Podcasts on the web.

The DigiCamp participants will learn to express their artistic voices with various digital media, e.g. such as a Podcast. The program offers video production, live video performance, music and soundtrack design, which includes script writing, recording techniques, and sound editing using the ProTools and Garageband software platforms. We will also learn how to build an easy website for posting the Podcasts on the web.

Campers will learn many aspects of video and sound production including digital filming and editing equipment as well as some fun video toys and surprises. The lessons will also focus on planning a successful project, critical thinking skills, and fusing traditional art forms together with technology.

INTRODUCTION TO PRO TOOLS
On-site Facilities and Equipment
Each student will be assigned a Macintosh computer with internet access. Prior experience with Macintosh computers is helpful but NOT required. Students will use various software including iMovie, Max/MSP/Jitter, Photoshop, and Flash depending on the requirements of their projects.

About the Instructors:

Gisburg is a well-known instructor and audio engineer, who edited sound and music on films by John Torturro, Woody Allen, Ethan Coen, and Rob Marshal (amo), working at New York's premier recording studios such as Sound One -Todd A.O., Goldcrest Post, and C.5.inc. As a composer, her own music is documented on three CDs on John Zorn's Tzadik label and has collaborated on many other CDs. She composed the film score for Deborah Kampmeier's movie Hounddog and for Emmy winner Lila Yomtoob’s first feature High Life. Currently she is working on several podcast productions for Columbia University.

Adam Rokhsar is a multimedia artist with degrees in psychology from Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Music Information Retrieval Laboratory, and the head coordinator of NYU’s Music Technology student research groups. Adam designs sound for interactive installations, teaches computer music and video programming, and is working on a Master’s thesis on machine-learning algorithms. His sound design work can currently be heard in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, and his video work was displayed in the Jakopic Gallery as part of multimedia project Senza Televisione.
