“Mirroring: time-spirals” is a quadraphonic composition that works with themes of the current exhibition “Outside Linear Time”, exploring the perception of time as multidimensional, curved, and sculpted, where patterns, repetition, and gradual shifts, bring us into deeper, meditative mental states and into other-worlds. Simple melodies, harmonies, textures spiral, wrap around, and fold over onto each other in complex layers. In all that is unknown and fleeting in our current climate, as materials, environments, and spirits destruct and decay, how and to what do we hold on? The work approaches composition as an affective gesture to navigate liminality and uncertainy, to ground, guide, envelop, embrace, and transcend, as an invisible force of care.”

ABOUT ARTIST
Jenn Grossman is an experimental composer, audiovisual artist, and sound sculptor based in Brooklyn, NY and PhD student at NYU GSAS in Music Composition. Creatively, she is concerned with the expansive physical and psycho-spatial potentials of sensory media within a culture of commodification, transforming “every-day” materials into affective, emotive, expressive vessels. She works between media forms, especially with sound/music, objects, and moving image as a means to stretch the bounds of reality. Her work considers space, orientation and modes of listening. She’s held residencies and an educational fellowship at I-Park Foundation and Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center, presented audio and AV works at venues and festivals/symposiums such as the Black Mountain College Museum, the Megapolis Audio Festival, WiS/WoS at Lancaster University, UK, the Cistern Dreams at the Deep Listening Institute, SARC’s Sonic Lab, the Light Matter Film Festival at Alfred University, and the Re-embodied Sound Symposium at EMPAC, as well as many NYC venues and galleries like the New York Transit Museum, the Museum of the Moving Image, Areté Gallery, MISE-EN_PLACE, Flux Factory, and Theaterlab. She has premiered live ensemble works at the MATA Festival and recently for Ensemble l’itinéraire and Hybercube’s Cube Lab. She has years of experience in producing, audio-post production and sound design for audiobooks and curates regularly for her group WISE: Women Innovating Sound Experience supporting women/non-binary artists in working in sound and experimental media.
