Performance: Christina Fuchs, Claudia Schmitz, Dafna Naphtali, Katherine Liberovskaya, Hans Tammen and Sarah Bernstein

As an international media artist, Claudia Schmitz explores boundaries: Limits of perception, real and imagined barriers, liquid processes, body discourses. She explores paradigms of media translation as a solo artist and in collaborative transmedia projects. She uses sculpture and projections, multidimensional drawing, (live) moving image, AI and food in real space, virtual and augmented reality to explore new forms of sound, space and experience.

Dafna Naphtali is an electronic-musician and vocalist who composes and performs experimental and interactive electroacoustic music, creating projects over the past 20+ years with live sound-processing of voice and other instruments, multi-channel audio, and musical robots. These performative “instruments” are all built on her programming in Max/MSP. Dafna also creates audio augmented-reality soundwalk compositions/apps for the U-GRUVE AR platform. All her projects draw on her eclectic musical background in jazz, classical, rock and near-eastern music.

Katherine Liberovskaya is a Canadian intermedia artist based in NYC. Involved in experimental video since the 80’s, she has produced numerous single-channel video art pieces, video installations and video performances, as well as works in other media, that have been shown around the world. Since 2001 her work predominantly focuses on the intersection of moving image with sound/music in diverse ephemeral and fixed forms notably through collaborations with many composers and sound artists in improvised live video+sound concert situations where her live visuals seek to create improvisatory “music” for the eyes.

Hans Tammen is just another worker in rhythms, frequencies and intensities. He likes to set sounds in motion, and then sit back to watch the movements unfold. Using textures, timbre and dynamics as primary elements, his music is continuously shifting, with different layers floating into the foreground while others disappear.

Christina Fuchs – composer and saxophonist/clarinetist – studied composition with Joachim Ullrich and Siegfried Koepf in Cologne, with Maria Schneider and Jim McNeely in New York, and with George Russell in Boston. She works as a composer, saxophonist, and clarinetist in a wide variety of ensembles spanning the fields of new music, theater, improvised music, and jazz. Over the past 35 years, she has developed a distinctive sound and her own musical language in her compositions. Her musical work encompasses traditional concert formats as well as collaborations with other art forms such as dance, literature, film, theater, and performance. All these forms are united by a constant effort to fuse composed and improvised music.

Sarah Bernstein is a New York-based violinist/composer whose work blurs the lines between innovative jazz, new chamber music, experimental pop and noise music. Over the course of twelve albums as a leader and countless collaborations, she has garnered international acclaim for her multi-disciplinary performances and distinctive recordings. She leads the improvising string ensemble VEER Quartet and the avant-jazz Sarah Bernstein Quartet, performs heavily-processed voice/violin solo as Exolinger and in duo with drummer Kid Millions, and fronts the darkwave band Day So Far.
