2014 Sponsored Projects

Awarded Artists:

JG Thirlwell

Associated project: Cholera Nocebo

“Cholera Nocebo” is a multi-media electro-acoustic performance presented at the Marrakech Biennale, Morocco. It is using prepared piano, autoharp, e-bow, multiple music boxes, computer, one bit synthesizers, Kaos pad and other sound objects. The 50 minute piece unfolds over a projected image of a car traveling thru darkness on the Long Island Expressway, ending in New York City in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The piece provides an opportunity to work in an elastic form of composition that uses both predetermined sound programming and improvisation.

Tirtza Even

Tirtza Even is a practicing video artist and documentary maker for the past fifteen years. Even has produced both linear and interactive video work representing the less overt manifestations of complex and sometimes extreme social/political dynamics in specific locations (e.g.. Palestine, Turkey, Spain, the U.S.. and Germany, among others).

Associated project: Natural Life

Natural Life, an experimental documentary installation produced in conjunction with the legal efforts of The Law Offices of Deborah LaBelle (LODL), challenges inequities in the juvenile justice system by depicting, through documentation and reenactment, the stories of five youths who received the most severe sentence available for convicted adults–a sentence of “natural life” or “life without parole”.
