LAUREN is an interactive performance in which McCarthy becomes a human Amazon Alexa, remotely watching over the occupants of a home 24/7 and controlling all aspects of their home. In the face of increasing replacement of humans by automated systems and artificial intelligence, McCarthy attempts to reclaim the position as omniscient watcher and controller of the home.
The performance will be experienced by the participants in their own homes, as well as by an audience in a control center. Documentation and artifacts from the performance will be exhibited to a wider public afterward.
