[Work-in-progress] Sonic Cyberfeminisms X by Annie Goh

In this work-in-progress presentation, Annie Goh will introduce two intersecting projects: Sonic Cyberfeminisms and GenDyTrouble: CyberFeminist Computer Music*.

Sonic Cyberfeminisms is an ongoing collaborative, multi-modal research project initiated in 2015. Its most recent formation is a forthcoming co-authored monograph with Marie Thompson (Goldsmiths Press, 2027). The project asks: What might cyberfeminism — with its nebulous, ironic, and irreverent critique of early internet cultures — offer contemporary sonic cultures? And conversely, what might sound, listening, and aurality reveal about cyberfeminism?

📅 Date: Saturday, March 14, 2026
🕓 Time: 4:00–6:00 PM
📍 Location: Harvestworks, 596 Broadway #602, New York, NY 10012

Alongside this research, Goh will present her solo audio project GenDyTrouble: CyberFeminist Computer Music*. The project began as a thought experiment staging a symbolic collision between composer Iannis Xenakis’ sound synthesis technique “Génération Dynamique Stochastique” (GenDyn/GenDy) and Judith Butler’s foundational queer theory text Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity (1990). Positioned within the genre of computer music, GenDyTrouble asks what might emerge from fusing the mathematical-generative power of computation with emancipatory gender politics.

Following the presentation, Goh will invite discussion on the contemporary resonances of these projects and the possibilities for further integrating artistic practice and critical research.
