In 2007, Harvestworks was the co-host for the Seventh International Conference on New Instruments for Musical Expression. As part of the conference, the New York Electronic Art Festival (NYEAF) was organized and, until 2019, was produced every two years.
The aim of NYEAF was to provide a discursive public context for the appreciation of cutting-edge electronic artwork, a showcase of exciting interdisciplinary work and technological virtuosity. Attendees got an overview of how technology was being used in various artistic disciplines, and had the opportunity to take part in a discussion about how these technologies will continue to shape contemporary art practice.
We spotlighted works from the Harvestworks T.E.A.M. (Technology, Engineering, Art and Music) lab and new works created in our local, national and international community. In 2020, the festival was integrated into the Art and Technology Program.
The NYEAF pluged into a national and international network of electronic art festivals, bringing significant contemporary art and music to the city. NYEAF was produced by Harvestworks,an international digital media arts center with over 40 years of experience helping artists to get inside the electronics and to develop a hands-on, experimental and explorative approach to making art with technology.
