Descriptions

(SAT) 4/26

1PM – TOMOGRAPHIES BY _NS

An audiovisual performance by _NS (aka Michael Romeo.) The work touches on themes of anthropomorphic unabated climate change, which could itself be seen as a sort of global-scale experimentation and the convergence of organic and synthetic materials and the manipulation of these elements by humans within the direct manipulation of genetics with technologies like CRISPR.

3PM – PERFORMANCES BY SARA ADKINS AND MASTER FADER

Sara Adkins makes sound with her guitar and laptop, blending Tidal Cycles live coding with electric guitar looping. Beginning as a classically trained guitarist, her music has evolved into a unique conglomeration of glitchy ambient techno. Also an engineer at heart, Sara incorporates generative and algorithmic composition into her work, and loves pushing synths to their limits to create gnarly timbres.

Ria Rajan (aka Master Fader) is an Intermedia artist working across analog and digital mediums, focussing on the intimate relationships between people, places and the technosphere. Her work deals with ideas related to movement, space and time, with a focus on the intangible, ephemeral and transient experiences –- IRL and online – through performance, audio visual experiences, imagemaking, locative and lens based media, and video art.

(Sun) 4/27

3PM – AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCES BY JAY REINIER, RGB__TEARS, AND MORTGAGE

Description from Reinier: “Asemic” is a livecoded language I created to describe a generative drawing system. Repeated lines and transformations create text, as well as fractal, plant-like systems. Keystrokes can also be correlated to sound patterns, so typing words on the keyboard becomes an abstract, expressive system. Grow a little garden with me on Govs Island!

RGB__Tears (visuals) and Mortgage (sound) are a live code duo whose A/V sets bring groove and high-energy improvisation.

(Sat) 5/3

1PM – COMMUNITY SHARE OUT AND OPEN PROJECTOR BY DIGIANA GROUP

Various members of NY based art collective DigiAna Group will be discussing and sharing their work in this community building event. Stop by to meet and connect with likeminded artists exploring the intersection of digital and analog art. Topics discussed include: importance of physical gatherings within digital modernism, cybergenetics, theremin techniques, and more. Featuring presentations by Seungjin Lee (digianagroup.com), Wamoo (thisiswamoo.com), Tommy Mintz (tommymintz.com), Nebula The Velvet Queen (IG: @nebulathevelvetqueen), DJ (IG: @threeethreethre), Michael Romeo (night-shining.com), and Roman Kalinovski (romankalinovski.com). There will also be an open projector (like an open mic for digital work) with 3 additional slots where anyone can sign up to share a piece for up to 10 minutes. Slots will be available on a first come basis. To sign up, come around 20 minutes before the event begins.

3PM – PERFORMANCES BY ABBY SOPHIA SANTOS, MEDO MANDEL, AND KYLE SANNA

Description from Santos: CTRL+U combines live coding on Strudel with audio processing and visuals with Max to create an inviting and immersive audiovisual performance. Using Strudel to write music, Max to generate visuals and process bass guitar input, and a game controller to tie everything together, CTRL+U utilizes a unique interface that invites the audience to control the performance as well. The performance features bright audio and visuals that emphasize thoughts of control, decisions, and interaction.

Medo Mandel will be sharing, “Granular Analysis,” a granular synthesis based performance with the aim of reflecting on the current geopolitical reality of the global citizen.

Kyle Sanna will perform a live coding set that recycles audio from his composition for the classical ensemble yMusic, Everything Again Is New. An album of this material is newly out on the French label Adieu Berthe. “An exciting listen for fans of experimental music and those curious about the intersection of live coding and classical influences” – Electronica (UK)

(Sun) 5/4

3PM – AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCES BY WILLIAM HAZARD, JEFFISTYPING, HEXE.EXE, AND KASTAKILA

William Hazard makes livecoded intermedia poetry-music using free and open-source software of his own design.

jeffistyping is a classically trained pianist and live coding performance artist. His performances explore the vibrant intersection of acoustic and algorithmic sound, seamlessly blending improvisational piano with dynamic, dance-oriented live coded patterns.

hexe.exe (aka Marie Hinson) plays a live code sequenced set that layers fields of a wavetable synth with poetry about the evocation of voice through beyond-human and virtual human forms. Part dungeon synth, part atmospheric experimental breakbeats, the sonic creation lurches forward with vying gestures of agency and contradiction.

Casta Zhu (aka Kastakila)  is a NYC-based multimedia artist, creative technologist, and producer. She blends the full spectrum of colors in her work to capture and visualize the clocked and unclocked time, the tangible and intangible spirit of nature. She creates installations, mixed reality experiences and generative arts.
