[March 21] TIP Master Class with Eternal Research

In this hands-on demonstration, participants will learn about the Demon Box, a device created by the Eternal Research group, and explore how it can be used to detect electromagnetic signals and transform them into sound. The session will cover how to control DMX lighting, MIDI, and CV for integrating sound and visuals, as well as how to connect the instrument to software environments such as Max/MSP, TouchDesigner, and Ableton, opening up a wide range of possibilities for performance and experimentation.

📅 Date: Saturday, March 21, 2026
🕓 Time: 1:00–3:00 PM
📍 Location: Harvestworks, 596 Broadway #602, New York, NY 10012
📩 RSVP required: studio@harvestworks.org

Eternal Research group creates instruments that reveal the hidden music embedded in everyday objects and environments by using electromagnetic field detection and proprietary inductors to translate invisible signals from electronics, wiring, and ambient energy into audible sound, transforming what is typically imperceptible into a rich sonic experience and opening new possibilities for listening, performance, and exploration while inviting audiences to engage with the unseen forces that shape our daily lives.

The Demon Box is a multi-faceted electronic instrument, device controller, and listening apparatus that turns electromagnetic fields into audio and data created by Brooklyn-born, Los Angeles-based creative technology studio Eternal Research. Part instrument, device controller, and spatialized listening apparatus, the Demon Box channels the untapped electromagnetic fields from everyday objects, intertwining multidimensional outputs that unlock synesthetic creative pathways.

In medieval science and philosophy, the word “demon” was ascribed to any phenomenon that was bizarre, unexplainable, or imperceptible. Inspired by this age-old curiosity for the unknown, the Demon Box is named to express this desire to create music from hidden forces. With 33 inductors that interact with EMF, the Demon Box translates those signals into audio, MIDI note data and MIDI CC messages, and control voltage. It also transforms those hidden drones into visual representations with its MIDI outputs, using visual coding softwares such as MaxMSP or TouchDesigner.
