Smells Like Paint and Letter Racers is an ambisonic turntable performance by 2025 Harvestworks TIP Resident Yo Vinyl Richie, inspired by Rammellzee’s Gothic Futurism. Through themes of Ikonoklast Panzerism, vocoder language, and sonic world-building, Richie transforms vinyl into spatial graffiti—where letters race, collide, and reassemble within a shifting universe of sound and resistance.

Performed entirely on turntables, the piece reimagines Rammellzee’s linguistic warfare through layered vinyl manipulations, spatialized sound design, and the reconstruction of sonic graffiti in motion. Each rotation of the record becomes an act of resistance and reprogramming—where letters race, collide, and reshape the aural space into a new mythology of frequency and code.
